At Writopia Lab we believe in the value of writing complete pieces, whether they be short stories, plays, memoirs, poems, screenplays, or whatever else students are working on. The sense of accomplishement that young writers feel upon having completed a piece is quite powerful. One of the ways we celebrate this feat is by inviting everyone who finishes a piece at Writopia to take part in one of the many public readings we hold. Below is a list of upcoming (and past) Writopia readings.

Come to our finale reading celebrating a year of fabulous writing!
Where: The Courtyard Gallery at the World Financial Center, 220 Vesey Street New York, NY 10281
- 4:30pm-5:30pm (ages 8-12)
- 5:30pm-6:30pm (ages 13-18)
The Readers: All Writopia Lab Winter and Spring Writers
Why the Financial Center? Some of the most powerful pieces of art submitted to the 2011 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards will be on display at the Financial Center this June. Writopia teen writers won more 2011 Scholastic Writing Awards than any other group of kids in the country! The Scholastic Awards has invited those writers, in additional to all of our writers to read in the same event space. It sounds spectacular.
Please let Kathleen (

We're hosting a poetry reading! This event will run from 2pm-3:30pm at the Charles P. Rogers show room located at 55 West 17th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenue). Because April is National Poetry Month, Time Out New York Kids will be listing our reading in an article about poetry opportunities for kids in the city. This reading will be open to poets beyond Writopia, and should be a very exciting event.

We're hosting a fiction and memoir reading! This event will run from 5pm-6:15pm at the St. Agnes Library at 444 Amsterdam Avenue (between 81st and 82nd Street). All workshoppers who complete (or who have completed) an original piece of creative writing this winter during a holiday intensive or during a weekly winter workshop are invited to read a two-minute excerpt at this exciting event. (Fall workshoppers who were unable to take part in the fall reading at Barnes & Noble are invited to participate in this event as well.) We will help current writers prepare, but parents of younger writers may wish to help identify their children's favorite 2-minute excerpt, and help them practice reading it aloud.
