The Emerging Genius

by Grant Gordon
“Oxford, huh?” the interviewer asked.
“Yes,” I confirmed. We were sitting in a spacious office, right in the center of Moscow. The interviewer was assessing me as an applicant for the special weapons department of the KGB, chemical weapons unit.
“You must be a smart man,” he said.

Don’t Fly Away, Paloma

by Sophie McNulty
I glance at my room from my bed and receive an indistinct image, as I rest here contemplating the complications I must confront. My life once was simple; lacking crisis and degeneracy, however in the past few weeks these qualities I had assumed a reality disappeared abruptly. I sigh, bury my head into my pillow and weep silently.

The Hero; The Murderer

by Sammy Sussman
As the plane lifts off the ground, I realize that I have done it. I have shot Osama bin Laden. I am a hero.
Yet, I hate myself.

Poor Poe

by Sammy Sussman
I pushed him down the hill. I watched his soon to be lifeless form fall down, crashing into boulders, trees and rocks. Poe had finally met with his “midnight dreary.” Much I marveled at this ungainly fool as he rolled down the hill (and what a successful job I had made of finishing him off). I still contemplated saving him. But it felt right to finally be rid of this man. Edgar Allen Poe.

The Loved One

By Pamela Buscema
There had to be a way into the old building. There just had to. The soul searched around and around, trying to find a way in.There was a small crack on the outside of a molding wall. Slowly, the soul turned into a cloud of mist, easily breaking through. From its entrance, the soul saw the familiar rooms all lined up.

The Invasion of 2014

By Kayla Koffler
I am looking at the trees outside. The breeze lifts my hair. It is really cold, and my nose is a bright red. My body aches to go inside. But it is so nice out. I am supposed to write a poem for school—about nature. It is winter, and last night it was snowing. We lit the fireplace, and my mom and I just stared, stared at the snow.

Lie Crafter

by Miyu Nishio
I don’t know much about myself. I’m not lying to you now, but it’s part of my job. I don’t have an official title or anything, but I call myself “Lie Crafter.” I guess this might be normal, but I’m scared of burning to death. Oh, and I’m not that scared of death itself. Burning myself is what scares me.

Lost in Time

It is done. Finally. Four years of research and hard work are over. And Tom and I have finished it before Hunter and his crew. I can’t believe it. A time machine. And we test it in two days.

“Huh?” said Patches.

Kate’s Journal

by Emma Pretzer
Dear Journal,

Today, Joel and I moved into our apartment. It is really cool. So far I love New York. It’s way different from our little town in Rhode Island. We found some auditions being placed in two days. It is for the musical ‘Annie.’ It’s lucky that Joel is a singer and I am a dancer.
