The Explosion of The World
by Walter Graham
It was a really hot day out on June 23. It was the year 5,483,295. The temperature was 120 degrees. Some people thought that it was global warming. Some people thought that it was just a heat wave. But a lot of people feared that it could be time for the world to explode. It continued to get hotter every day. Once, around the whole world a faint shaking was felt. It was also getting too hot every day to be global warning.
Meanwhile, lots of different vehicle companies had joined together to make some giant rocket ships that could fly to Mars. They were capable of holding millions of people as well as lots of food and supplies for Mars. However, even though there was lots of food on the spaceships, It would not last forever on Mars.
Robert the news reporter was announcing that it was 130 degrees. Instead of raining, it just got really humid since it was so hot. There was a blackout that night since so many people were using air conditioners. More rumblings were felt. The construction of the rockets was complete and they were being loaded up. A few people still had a little hope but most people knew that they would have to abandon their home planet.
Lots of giant jet planes were sent all over the world. They all carried tiny rocket ships that people could use to fly to Mars. The rest of the people could fly on the jet planes to the giant rocket ships. The temperature was rising almost one degree every ten seconds. All over the world small rocket ships were being launched toward Mars. They were on autopilot since the people inside did not know how to fly them. The entrances to the giant rockets were really crowded since everyone was trying to get in. The people that manned the rocket-ships had to be careful that they didn’t launch the rockets until everyone was inside because if someone was outside, they would be burned by the flames.
Once everyone was in the rockets, they started the countdown. As the rocket ships were flying off, the people all looked back at earth, since they were wondering what would happen. When they were far enough away, they started to see giant cracks forming. They could even feel gusts of heat coming on them, even though they were far away. Chunks of rock started falling off. Suddenly, when it looked like there was almost a small asteroid field around earth, there was a giant BOOM! Lots of flames shot out from the earth. Chunks of rock flew at them at high speeds. The pilots had to start navigating through all the chunks of rock as if it were an asteroid belt. Robert the news reporter was looking out the window. He was worried since he thought he might not know how to do everything on Mars. He was always forgetting things.
He asked his wife if they would be able to survive on Mars. He told her that since there was mostly rock and ice on Mars, they might not be able to make it.
She said, “We have a lot of food on the spaceships so we might be able to live for a little time.”
“We’re going to have to do everything all over again, since there isn’t much on Mars. We’re going to have to learn to make and use fire in a new atmosphere. There isn’t as much of an atmosphere, you know. It’ll be harder to find most of the supplies we use on earth, like metal and wood and plastic. We’ll have to make new laws and form a new government too.”
They saw Mars getting closer really fast. “Here it goes,” Robert said.
As they got off the ship, while they walked, they jumped about three feet each step. Gravity was different on Mars. I wish we were still on Earth, Robert thought. There’s almost nothing here but rock and ice. As they stepped on Mars, it felt like powder. When they were looking around they saw an old abandoned rover that had been controlled by a remote on earth. At one point, Robert thought he saw a rock move. He started to look at the other rocks to see if they were moving. He told his wife and some other people what he saw. They told him that they also thought they saw some rocks move. As they went farther out, they thought they saw some holes. They wondered what the holes were, because they knew that no creatures could live on Mars. They were wearing oxygen masks. They thought that the holes could be caused by craters. Some of the small rocket ships that had not landed yet thought they found signs of life on the radars. The humans had sent all the Armies in the world, combined, to go first before anyone else, in case there was any danger. The people were starting to bring out the supplies to start building houses.
“I wonder what our new house is going to look like,” said Robert.
“We’ll have to decide that,” said his wife.
Lots of people had to start building the houses, since if only a few people did it, it would take a very long time to create a few billion houses. Even if lots of people were working on the houses, they probably wouldn’t be able to make that many, since they didn’t have that much supplies. They wondered how they would build all the cities and the roads that they had on earth, with just the little bit that they had on the rocket ships. There was not much else on Mars.
