Summer Camps 2013

Half-Day Workshops

Tenleytown, NW DC; Capitol Hill, SE DC; Rockville, MD; and Falls Church, VA

Workshop Schedules

Writopia Lab’s half-day camps meet every week of the summer, June 10 - August 30.  Workshops are offered either in the morning (9:30 - 12:30) or afternoon (1:30 - 4:30) at all three of our Greater Washington locations.

Campers may register for multiple weeks throughout the summer, either to offer extended time for one large project or to complete multiple projects.

Within these three-hour writing intensives, 3 - 6 young writers will work with a published author on their original pieces. Campers choose to focus on either fiction, memoir, poetry, scripts, or journalism during a workshop, and will leave the camp with a finished piece.

All writers who complete original creative work will be invited to publish their pieces on our online magazine, The Parenthetical, and to participate in a public reading at Barnes and Noble at the end of the summer.

Workshop Cost: $525
Sliding Scale Options: $385 | $275 | $175

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and operate on an honor-based sliding scale tuition system in order to make our programs accessible to as many young writers as possible, regardless of ability to pay.  Learn more about our sliding scale policy here.

Full-Day Camps

Writopia Lab’s full-day camp meets during two weeks of July. Campers have the option of signing up for one or both week-long sessions. Full-day camps are open to writers ages 10 - 18.

In the afternoon, campers choose from a variety of electives, including options such as poetry in the park, playwriting and performance, outdoor fiction games, etc.
