Hanna Mahon is excited to be joining the DC Writopia Lab team as a writing instructor in the summer of 2022. Hanna is a proud native Washingtonian who graduated from Jackson-Reed High School (then Woodrow Wilson) before earning a BA from Middlebury College and MFA from California Institute of the Arts. Their fiction has been published in Guernica, The Breakwater Review, and Every Day Fiction, among other publications, and they were nominated for the 2022 PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers. Their experience in education spans from teaching memoir writing to high schoolers in rural Vermont to analyzing dystopian literature with undergraduate art students in LA. When Hanna is not writing—or scheming about how to get young people interested in writing—they organize for economic and racial justice and tend to their perpetually wilting plants.
