At the beginning of a workshop, each student chooses to write in the genre of his or her choice for the week (i.e. humor, realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, memoir, poetry, scripts, or journalism). Teens usually focus on completing one piece over the week; our younger writers sometimes write several stories. Our Manhattan fall, winter, and spring workshops meet weekly for 10 1.5 hour after school sessions or for 8 2-hour weekend sessions. Summer writing workshops and holiday intensives meet five days in a row for three-hour sessions.Enrollment is ongoing. See the Price Menu, and Registerin order to sign up for workshops! Or arrange to have us lead a 10-week in-school creative writing seminar at your school.
Writopia's winter session begins on Tuesday, January 3rd and runs until Monday, March 26th. The Spring session begins on Monday, April 2nd and runs until Friday, June 15th. See the schedule links below for exact dates of workshop sessions. Missed workshops can be made up on any day of the week that an age-appropriate workshop meets. (Students may only make up missed sessions during the period in which they are enrolled.)
Our intensive workshops meet five days in a row for three hours a day. Our workshops are run by published authors, produced, award-winning playwrights, and widely published poets. Our workshops are almost all mixed-genre environments. Students choose to focus on either fiction, memoir, poetry, scripts, or journalism during a workshop. (We also offer a few genre-specific workshops.)
