Madeleine Joung

Madeleine Joung is a writer who has been leading creative workshops since her own high school days in 2014. Her work has appeared in TIME, The Harvard Advocate, and Tuesday Magazine, and she is a recipient of the Edward Eager Prize in creative writing at Harvard University, where she was nominated for a thesis award for her novel manuscript. In the genre of historical fiction, the book chronicles close friendships between girls as they grow up together into young adulthood. Outside of creative writing, she also writes for a storytelling project at Stanford University, highlighting the personal stories of patients navigating the healthcare system with physical disabilities. She has also worked with women who served in WWII to help them write down their stories for families and caregivers. Her other experiences include magazine journalism and editorial work for a book about public health in Sierra Leone and Liberia. More recently, she has mentored high school students in essay workshops at a New York City public school, co-led by 826NYC. She holds a BA in English with a specialization in creative writing from Harvard College and is in the MFA program at Columbia University, where she teaches fiction and other types of creative writing for the Columbia Veterans Workshop and the Community Classes program.
