Amara Evering

Anu Amaran

Amara Evering is a Creative Writing Instructor at Writopia Lab. She holds a degree in Creative Writing and Sociology from Emory University. She served as a lead journalist and host on WPFW FM’s acclaimed morning show,  Monday Morning QB. She was recognized for her coverage of the Evanston reparations program, immigrant detention in Libya, and her extended interview with legendary poet Sonia Sanchez. She wrote over 100 scripts for radio. Her poetry and prose have been published in The Contemporary, Conceit Magazine, and the Survivor Anthology. In 2021, she was awarded the Alice Rowan Swanson Fellowship to write and produce the original radio series For Ama, which aired on Pacifica networks. Currently, Amara is in the process of editing her first novel “Flooded Waters”. Amara’s work is rooted in her identity as a D.C. native and her Jamaican and Gullah lineage.
